There are so many musical layers to вЂ1 ThingвЂ™ that itвЂ™s impossible to catch them all on first listen. In an era where synths were ruling the airwaves, Harrison was able to get big band back on the radio. Harrison is easily one of my top 5 producers and вЂ1 ThingвЂ™ is the perfect example why. The song was produced by Rich Harrison, who also produced вЂCrazy in LoveвЂ™ *Further Proof*. By no means am I saying that Amerie jacked BeyonceвЂ™s style, but thereвЂ™s definitely some influence going on here. In вЂCrazyвЂ™ there was the вЂUh-OhвЂ™ sections, in вЂ1 ThingвЂ™ we have the вЂNa Na Na Na Na OhвЂ™ keeping us company.

Still great, but not the original.ДЄmerie took a lot of notes from вЂCrazyвЂ™ because the same things that worked for Beyonce worked for her. вЂCrazy in LoveвЂ™ is still one of the best singles ever, so thatвЂ™s why вЂ1 ThingвЂ™ is the step-sister.

Both songs are horn driven anthems that kick in full force. вЂ1 ThingвЂ™ is pretty much the step-sister of BeyonceвЂ™s вЂCrazy in LoveвЂ™. To date the song serves as AmerieвЂ™s shining musical moment and one of the best songs of the 2000вЂ™s. It also was thrown onto the HitchВ soundtrack, further exposing it to the public. The song took the radio by storm becoming AmerieвЂ™s first number 1 hit on the R&B charts. So if you had ears in 2005 then you have to remember the Amerie smash вЂ1 ThingвЂ™. Considering that is is the вЂLaffy TaffyвЂ™ era its bound to be overlooked. What better way to keep that era of music alive then to bring it back up from time to time. One of my favorite things to write about is old music, specifically music from the 2000-2009 era when things were just the best. Maybe I should jump on the whole Throwback Thursday thing.
